TOP THINGS TO DO IN ORPINGTON

Being the largest postcode district in the London Borough of Bromley, this semi-rural town has lots to offer. Orpington is steeped in history and recognised for its breed of chickens, aptly named after this BR6 town. Today the area is known for good schools, shopping amenities and excellent transport links.  Located on the Bromley-Kent border, it’s the perfect blend of rural and suburban living, making it a popular destination for all types of families and London commuters.

If you’re not familiar with Orpington we’d thoroughly recommend a visit. To aid your exploring, we’ve compiled our top list of things to do in the area.

Shop-til-you-drop

The town centre is home to Orpington high street; a bustling road hosting a variety of stores. Dominating the high street is The Walnuts Shopping Centre – a recently renovated retail hub, home to some of the UK’s favourite brands such as Argos, New Look and CEX. Beyond the town centre, in the St Mary’s Cray area is an industrial shopping park: the Nugent Shopping Centre. Here you’ll find much larger stores including Laura Ashley, Next, M&S and much more. Whether you’re shopping for the latest fashion, gifts or fancy a bite to eat, you’ll be sure to find what you’re after.

Entertain me

The development of The Walnuts Shopping Centre saw the introduction of Orpington’s first cinema for 34 years. It is now home to one of the latest Odeon cinemas, featuring 7 screens displaying stunning RealD 3D and an immersive ISENSE screen designed to deliver an ultra-high definition cinema experience. There’s also plenty of tasty treats on offer, including Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream, Costa Coffee and even Gourmet Pizza at their Croma Pizza Point. It’s the perfect place for an indulgent movie night out with friends, family or that special someone.

Get close to nature

Orpington is ideal for those who love the outdoors as well as being a dog-owners dream! It’s home to several large parks, perfect for long, relaxing walks with your four-legged friend. The most popular destination is High Elms County Park with 250 acres of peaceful woodlands and meadows, and complete with a 150-acre golf course. In addition to its natural beauty, High Elms is also home to the ‘Green Roof Café’ – one of Bromley’s most picturesque cafés.

Active pursuits

If you love to keep active then why not unleash your competitive streak, blasting your opponents in a colourful field of battle at Delta Force Paintball. This action-packed experience takes place in a woodland setting right by the quaint Bo Beep Pub – the perfect spot to quench your thirst after you’ve been in combat. Alternatively check out AirJump trampoline park (close to Nugent Shopping Centre) and reach for the skies – bounce off the walls and dive into spongey foam pits. There is lots of activities to choose from including AirFit, AirDunk and AirTots catering for all ages so there is something for everyone. Sounds like fun to us!
